The Wyatt Project is a 501(c)3 nonprofit pet rescue organization. Our goal is to help empty the shelters! We believe every rescue pet deserves a chance at a safe loving home. The Wyatt Projects vow to our rescues is, you'll never starve again, you'll never hurt again, you'll never feel lonely and unloved again, you'll never feel scared and unwanted again, we'll never betray you, and when time comes, we'll be right there next to you to hold you and make you feel loved.
At The Wyatt
We will strive to obtain and provide safety, protection and medical treatment for “at risk” pets in kill shelters and homeless situations, rehabilitating when necessary to provide the best opportunities at adoption, while working towards a lasting improvement in the wellbeing of all pets. We will work together and partner with organizations to offer services to help owners keep their pets and increase pet adoptions. At The Wyatt Project, we are committed to providing a safe and loving environment for every animal in our care. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find forever homes for animals in need.
We will strive to offer our pets the highest benchmark of care available to ensure their emotional and physical wellbeing needs are met.
We show empathy for both the pets in our program and the people we deal with, whatever their circumstances may be for needing our help.
We will not show prejudice against the pets we assist, based on their breed, age or medical condition. No adoptable dog is unnecessarily euthanized due to space or time constraints.
The Wyatt Project will be the voice for every pet who cannot advocate for themselves. Whether in our care or not.
We endeavor to work in a way that is sincere, genuine, transparent and is responsible to our participants, respecting and valuing our volunteers, partners and supporters.
Wyatt was first found in the middle of a busy highway median in the DFW area of Texas. After struggling to get close enough to catch him, I painfully and tearfully realized, I would not be able to help him. I couldn't stop seeing the terror on his sweet face. That night I couldn't sleep. The next day I traveled that same highway and sick to my stomach, I looked for his body. Somehow, he wasn't there... could he have made it? Later on that evening I went out to my vehicle and there he was, the same terrified dog that I saw in that busy highway median, who was franticly fighting to stay alive was now lying next to my truck. I couldn't believe it at first. Could he have found me at least two miles from where we saw him in the highway? My head struggled to understand this. Surely his family must be looking for him. Exhausted. He was wearing a very tight collar and was covered in superficial dog bites everywhere. He had tons of sores and was covered in fleas. I bathed him and treated what I could on my own and then brought him to the vets in hopes to find a chip that might give a clue as to where he came from. But nothing. My heart dropped. That entire week I searched for this sweet boy's family. After tireless calls to countless places and hours of searching and posting everywhere I could think of.... nothing... how could this be? The more I looked the sadder the reality became. Someone dumped this poor young dog in that busy highway median to die. Again, I was sick to my stomach. Page after page of found dogs with no one looking for them. I called around to rescues in hopes of finding someone to help. Thats when I realized what a true disaster state our pet community is in. Rescues are all overrun with no funding or help. All of the kill Shelters are at max capacity and pets are getting dumped everywhere. What kind of pet advocate would I be if I didn't try to help stop some of this and bring awareness to this epidemic. Wyatt now spends his days laying on my couch with his Poodle friends and our rescued Cats, who are rescues from a 2022 Texas trip.
Please take a chance on a pet who humans have failed. Typically, no more than 10% of dogs and cats entering shelters are suffering from irreparable medical or behavioral issues that compromise their quality of life and prevent them from being rehomed. Animal rights groups estimate that 99% of euthanized and deceased animals are adoptable. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application.
Please consider becoming a foster family for an abandoned pet while they are finding their furever homes. The Wyatt Project's foster care program provides temporary housing for cats and dogs, puppies and kitten, who haven't quite found their furever homes yet. Fostering allows The Wyatt Project to be able to save more pets lives by having special loving families to help us look after them. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please fill out an application.
We understand not everyone is in a situation where they can help foster or adopt or even own a pet. If that sounds familiar, please consider becoming a sponsor. Our pets could not be rescued without the generosity of sponsors. You will be able to choose a pet you wish to sponsor. We offer different levels of sponsorship depending on the Indvidual looking to sponsor and the specific pets needs. We track daily other shelters. We try to do our best to keep the public informed on what is happening in the pet community. We are happy to answer any questions you may have and help find the best information to educate in all areas of pet care.
As a non-profit organization, we rely on donations to continue providing care for our animals. Your donation can help provide food, shelter, and medical care for animals in need. Donate today and make a difference in an animal's life.
